Caution: May Contain Spoilers

If you owned a smartphone in the early 2010s, chances are you downloaded and played the Angry Birds game in which flightless birds sought to overthrow the green pigs. But why were they angry? If you caught 2016’s The Angry Birds Movie, you would know! In case you didn’t see the first film, the Piggies who are ruled by Leonard (aka King Mudbeard aka Chuckles) lead an assault on Bird Island to steal away all of the eggs. Outcast Red, accidentally recruited Chuck & Bomb, two fellow birds from his anger management class, on a quest to bring back the soon-to-be hatchlings. They tracked down the legendary Mighty Eagle and together saved the day.

In The Angry Birds Movie 2, the angry birds and the scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level! When a new threat emerges that puts both Bird and Pig Island in danger, Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride), and Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) recruit Chuck’s sister Silver (Rachel Bloom) and team up with pigs Leonard (Bill Hader), his assistant Courtney (Awkwafina), and techpig Garry (Sterling K. Brown) to forge an unsteady truce and form an unlikely superteam to save their homes.

Fans on the first film will no doubt love to watch this next chapter unfold. Number 2 is less crass, more fun and incorporates more segues set to music when words fail to convey heightened emotions. For me, the highlight of the film was the introduction of Silver, the scientific bird brainiac with a can-do attitude that was missing from the first film. I love the positivity she brings to the film and that she is actually an admirable, intelligent character. Since seeing this film, my toddler has insisted that we call her Silver and I perform as the villain!

Special thanks to Sony Pictures Animation & Target for the screening invite, BelAirMommie for hosting such a fun The Angry Birds Movie 2 themed party last month at HoJo Anaheim and Jazwares for the fun swag (which YOU could win!).

The Angry Birds Movie 2 opens in theatres August 9th and is rated PG. I would recommend this for ages 6 and up because as the title suggests, some anger issues come to light in this film, but on a lesser scale than the first.

The film is directed by Thurop Van Orman with a screenplay by Peter Ackerman and Eyel Podell & Jonathon E. Stewart. It is produced by John Cohen, and stars Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Leslie Jones, Bill Hader, Rachel Bloom, Awkwafina, Sterling K. Brown, Eugenio Derbez, Danny McBride, Peter Dinklage, Zach Woods, Pete Davidson, Dove Cameron, Lil Rel Howery, Beck Bennett, Nicki Minaj, Brooklynn Prince, Maya Rudolph, Tony Hale, JoJo Siwa, David Dobrik, Gaten Matarazzo, and Colleen Ballinger.
