California is slowly opening up and after a year of quarantine, the change is welcome! It will, no doubt, spur some new challenges that our children will need guidance to help navigate. Namely, socialization. While television and movies certainly don’t have the same power as first hand experience, I believe entertainment can be used to find teachable moments in life.
Nickelodeon has always had some amazing programming for preschool aged kids with a positive outlook. Released on March 16, Bubble Guppies: The New Guppy takes viewer on an all-new underwater adventures and meet the fin-tastic new guppy Zooli, a smart, spunky, animal expert who isn’t afraid to get a little messy. Zooli joins Molly, Gil and the rest of the Bubble Guppy friends for epic, underwater adventures and helping animals in need.
Our favorite Bubble Guppies learn how to welcome new friends into their inner circle, look after others, work together cooperatively and clean up after themselves. Certainly great lessons for any young child and great brush up for parents who want to show outside examples of the immediate family.
Episodes include:
- The New Guppy!
- Dragons N’ Roses!
- Genie in a Bubble!
- The Mighty, Untidy Titans!
My daughters love ANYTHING to do with undersea creatures, particularly mermaids, and were riveted to the screen. The life lessons, although taught by mythical beings, are still applicable to preschool life and can be easily referenced when teachable moments arise.
For those times in between, kids can learn all about emotions with the help of the Bubble Guppies! Talk to your children about their feelings and emotions with a little help from the Bubble Guppies. Download and print out the activity sheet, then have your kids draw facial expressions on the characters to match their emotions.
Bubble Guppies: The New Guppy is now available on DVD from Nickelodeon!
