Last Saturday, I had the extreme pleasure of joining members of the Japanese and American cast (plus many other characters) at the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ red carpet premiere in Hollywood.
This was the sequel to last summer’s Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods and we were upgraded to the American Cinematheque Egyptian Theatre.
The whole day was quite the event! I don’t know that I have seen any premiere quite like this….as I arrived, fans were lined up in front of the theatre courtyard gates waiting in anticipation for a pre-show fan event to start. The expected cosplay die-hards mingled with the regular tourist traffic and hopeful young fan carried their posters or dolls in the hopes of meeting a voice over performer and claiming the coveted autograph.
When the gates were opened, we found ourselves surrounded by a sea of respectful chaos as the event began. Then….the cast showed up and the crowd sent up cheers galore! Every photographer was snapping away and video reporters were standing at the ready to pull in the
performers and their translators. Once we all arrived, the show began! Many of the fans that showed up were unable to purchase screening tickets and the theatre was packed. Even the Fire Marshall showed a bit of concern on the number of fans that had turned out for the event, but when the theatre staff assured him that only ticketed people could enter the theatre, he was at ease.
After the screening, that’s when the real party began. There was a delightful reception with food and drinks, a dance performance in the courtyard and an incredible Taiko drum performance to set the mood. And we couldn’t have asked for better LA weather!
The final English dub for Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ records this summer and they are looking to release it in theatres nationwide before the end of year. Look for it!
