What better time to reconnect with family and friends than the holidays! Walt Disney Media presents Ron’s Gone Wrong, the hilarious animated comedy from 20th Century Studios and Locksmith Animation examines the meaning of friendship, self acceptance, the importance of family and both the pitfalls and pluses of social media.
Things go hilariously awry when Barney (Jack Dylan Grazer), a socially awkward middle-schooler, receives a malfunctioning, digitally connected B*Bot device (Zach Galifianakis) that’s supposed to be his “best friend out of the box.” In this action-packed animated story set against the backdrop of the social media age, a boy and his robot discover the wonderful messiness of true friendship.
The film is absolutely a commentary through comedy set in a not-too-distant plausible futuristic San Francisco, the hub of social media advancement. Elementary aged kids and older will be able to identify with Barney at some point in his journey, whether it’s in having been bullied, feelings of inferiority or the love of technology. Parents may finally feel seen with the portrayal of the honest parent-child relationship…and their own relationship with technology.
No matter what, we can all think of a time where we felt lonely and looked for someTHING to fill the void when all we really needed was to find a path to self acceptance. Whether it be a physical attribute, different ability or perhaps not having a complete emotional toolbox to process experiences, loneliness is a universal feeling. Ron’s Gone Wrong shows us that there is a world of connections to be made IRL, if we would just look beyond our screens.
Ron’s Gone Wrong is available now on Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD with never-before-seen bonus footage and deleted scenes. Be sure to watch this holiday season!
