Ahh Craig’s List. Sometimes, you can’t seem to tell where the quality is. It is true that sifting through the muck on such a site can be difficult, however the same can be said for “industry standard” casting sites. No-pay, deferred upon sale, copy and credit…Where is the WORK? While much of the legit paid work on industry sites is locked so only your representation can see it, Craig’s List has it all. Especially promises of high pay, high quality work. I caution you with the old adage: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
On the flip side, search long enough and be smart about it, those Craig’s List castings can certainly pay off. Now, I’m not saying respond to everything and hope for the best. Unfortunately, there’s no method for success. Be smart and use your best judgement.
This past month, Craig’s List has been there for me. I successfully found, auditioned for, and landed not one, but two industrials, each for multi-day shoots! It was with great reservation that I went on both auditions and I was prepared to hop back into my car should the casting be slightly suspect. Luckily, the legit castings came through and work was had!
Keep and open eye, always let someone know where you are going and do your research. Stay safe out there!
